2020 Citizen of the Year Event

The Del-Mar-Va Council, Boy Scouts of America is honoring Dr. Janice E. Nevin, President & Chief Executive Officer of ChristianaCare, as the recipient of the 2020 Citizen of the Year Award, the BSA’s flagship fundraising event in Delmarva. The event is chaired by Katie Wilkinson, Senior Vice President and Commercial Market Executive of Fulton Bank. Dr. Nevin will be honored on Tuesday, October 13th, 2020 in a virtual ceremony 5:00 - 6:00 pm. The soon to be Eagle Scout speaker will be Erin Pyle from Scouts BSA Girl Troop 1111, Middletown. This will be the first ever Citizen of the Year event with an all-female honoree, chairperson, and Scout speaker team!

Dr. Nevin will be presented the Citizen of the Year Award in recognition of her extraordinary community leadership and service as an exemplary role model for our community’s youth. This awards ceremony, in its 16th year, has honored many notable community leaders including Chip Rossi, Paul McConnell, Gary Stockbridge, Rob Buccini, Brian DiSabatino, Alan Levin, Fred Sears, Connie Bond Stuart, and many others.

A visionary and collaborative health care leader, Janice E. Nevin, M.D., MPH, has served as president and CEO of ChristianaCare since 2015. As leader of one of the country’s most dynamic health care organizations, centered on improving health outcomes, making high-quality care more accessible and lowering health care costs, Dr. Nevin is pioneering value-based care, leading a transformation from a health care system to a system that truly impacts health. She is nationally recognized for innovation in population health and for leading the organization to formally adopt the values of love and excellence.

In 2019, Dr. Nevin was selected as one of Modern Healthcare’s Top 25 Women Leaders, and in 2020 she was named to Modern Healthcare’s 50 Most Influential Clinical Executives. Dr. Nevin has been inducted into the Delaware Women’s Hall of Fame and was recognized among 100 Great Healthcare Leaders to Know in 2018 by Becker’s Hospital Review. For her commitment to the community, she received the Humanitarian Award from the Limen House in 2018, and Delaware’s Grassroots Champion Award from the American Hospital Association and the David G. Menser Award from the Wilmington Senior Center, both in 2017.

After graduating from St. Andrew's School in Middletown, Delaware, Dr. Nevin graduated from Harvard University and earned her medical degree with honors from Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University, where she is currently a professor. She completed her family medicine residency at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and her Master of Public Health degree at the University of Pittsburgh. She joined ChristianaCare in 2002, as chair of the Department of Family and Community Medicine.
