WELCOME TO MERIT BADGE COLLEGE !!!

Join hundreds of Scouts from the Del-Mar-Va Peninsula and surrounding area for this exciting, classroom based opportunity to help Scouts earn their merit badges.
Quality programs, top-notch instructors, and a smiling staff make this the must-attend event of the year.

When:  Saturday January 9th and Saturday March 6th, 2021.  Scouts must attend both sessions to complete the selected Merit Badges.

Where:  This year's event will be entirely virtual using Google Classrooms and Google Meet.

Time:  There are 4 periods, each lasting 1 hour and 20 minutes.  Start Times are:  10am, 11:30am, 2pm and 3:30pm

Cost:  $20 per Scout

Courses:  We are still securing additional Counselors so more classes are added on an ongoing basis.
Contact Laura Lee Eskaros at crzy4scouting@gmail.com to volunteer as a Counselor.

The list of current offerings continues to grow.  Here is the list as it stands today.

Spots are limited- DON’T MISS IT!!!!!

Assignments will be built into the Google Classrooms. There are no Pre-requisites for the courses.

Merit Badge Applications (blue cards) will be filled out virtually by Counselors.  We are presuming a Scout has approval from his/her Scoutmaster before registering for class.

It is the Scout's responsibility to be familiar with and complete any assignments, projects or other outside work and present the work or evidence to the counselor. A note from the Scoutmaster or a signed prior partial MB Card may be useful in this.  The Merit Badge Counselor has the discretion to determine if the Scout has met the requirements.

GUIDANCE FOR SCOUTS ATTENDING THE MBC

The Merit Badge College is an opportunity to learn from subject matter experts in career or lifelong hobby subjects. We especially seek out experts in areas that may be difficult for you to find.

1.) Pick a Merit Badge
You can select up to 4 Merit Badges that you have an interest in taking. We expect that you will talk to your Scoutmaster and parents about which badge to take. But in the end, we expect you to select a topic that you truly wish to learn about. Don't let rank advancement be the only, or even main, consideration.

2.) Consider Your Age
While there is not an age or grade requirement for any merit badge, certain classes at the MB College are more intense for younger Scouts.  In the short duration of a single day, the nature and amount of material covered in these classes will possibly make it difficult for a younger Scout to keep up.  This can slow the pace of the class and the class will not complete in the intended material.  We want you to enjoy what you do here so you will do it well.

3.) Getting Ready for MBC Day (Read the book)
OK. So, you have selected your badges and registered online.  Congratulations! The next thing that you should do, if you have not already done so, is to get a copy of the Merit Badge pamphlet for yourself.  If your Troop does not have a current physical copy for you to borrow you can also get one digitally now.  Here's the link.
https://blog.scoutingmagazine.org/2020/04/23/updated-merit-badge-pamphlets-now-available-through-amazon-kindle/  (Read the book.) You should read through the pamphlet so that you are completely familiar with it. In fact (Read the book.) you may want to read it through more than once. (Read the book.)

We do not guarantee that you will complete any badge. It is up to you to make sure that you complete every requirement. Some requirements may by their nature not be doable in a classroom. (Read the book.)

4.) Blue Merit Badge Cards
Your blue card is your record of achievement at the MB College. This card will be emailed to you after the College and is the ONLY record of your achievement at the MB College. Counselors are not required to keep records. Most will but some will not.  You are responsible for your card. Keep it safe.

5.) ON MBC Day LEARN and ACHIEVE
This is a CLASS A event. All Scouts and Scout Leaders should demonstrate their Scout Spirit by wearing their uniform.

EXCELLENCE IS NOT AN ACT... EXCELLENCE IS A HABIT...BE EXCELLENT!
PROPER SCOUT BEHAVIOR IS EXPECTED.  EACH SCOUT IS AN AMBASSADOR OF SCOUTING.
