MIKE ROWE TALKS "DIRTY" AT THE BSA NATIONAL JAMBOREE!
Mike Rowe of the Discovery Channel's hit television series Dirty Jobs made a highly anticipated appearance at the BSA's 100th Anniversary National Jamboree on Saturday, July 31. Mike spoke during the Shining Light Across America arena show on Saturday evening to a crowd of tens of thousands of Jamboree attendees and countless others watching both live in staged locations across the country and streaming online.
A Baltimore native and Eagle Scout, Mike credited his experiences in Scouting (Troop 16, Dulaney District, Baltimore Area Council in particular) for helping him get where he is today. Making the crowd laugh, he explained how in the first 15 minutes of being a Scout and at his first troop meeting, they played games in which he suffered a bloody nose and a fat lip and yet still decided to go back for a second meeting.
As an Eagle Scout, Mike is of course familiar with the Scout Law and its twelve points from trustworthy to reverent, although having a difficult time living up to the eleventh point of clean. His message was right on target in that "a Scout is clean, but not afraid to get dirty." This is a good message for all Scouts as they strive for Eagle and plan their careers.
